Adoption
Stap 1
Stap 2
Stap 3
Stap 4
Stap 5: thuis!

In the step-by-step plan we explain how adopting a dog or cat works for us,

Step 1: intake form

How nice that you are interested in one of our dogs or cats. We would like to see if this is a suitable match, which is why we ask you to complete the intake form as a first step. The intake form can be found on this page.

Step 2: reservation of the animal

On the basis of the intake form, we determine whether the dog / cat is indeed suitable for you. It is of course possible that we think that this is not going to be a good match. This does not necessarily mean that you are not good enough, it just means that we believe that this dog/cat is not the best fit for your situation and/or lifestyle. We would like a successful adoption and look for the best chance of a successful match. We will of course inform you about our decision.

If the result is positive, we will contact you by telephone. Following this we will send the reservation agreement. An example of our reservation agreement can be found here. In the agreement we ask you to transfer 50% of the total adoption amount to us and to complete the agreement. As soon as we receive this completed agreement and payment, the reservation is official.

If the dog/cat is already staying with a host family in the Netherlands, an introduction will be planned. If both parties want to adopt after this visit, we will make an appointment to collect the animal. The adoption agreement must be signed in advance or on site by both parties. The adoption fee must be transferred to the account of AROS Foundation before the time of collection.

Step 3: adoption agreement & adoption fee

We work with an adoption agreement. An example of this document can be found here.  To cover the minimum costs of the animal (such as chip, passport, vaccinations, castration if suitable age, travel to the Netherlands, etc.) we ask for an adoption fee. Here you will find more information about the adoption fee,

Step 4: the journey to the Netherlands

When the dog/cat is still in Spain, we will look for a flight to get him/her to the Netherlands as soon as possible. Air travel transporting pets is scarce. As a result, there is a limited choice in airports and arrival times. In addition, we depend on volunteers and flight attendants and we often cannot say far in advance when a dog / cat will come to the Netherlands. We therefore expect some flexibility from the adopter. Of course, as soon as the flight information is known to us, you will be notified immediately.

Due to Covid-19 and a minimal number of flights, we also use professional road transport. Here too, we will share the information as soon as possible if we have a date of transport.

Before the arrival of the animal, we will send the adoption papers and ask you to sign this and transfer the remaining 50% of the adoption amount to the AROS Foundation account.

Please note: puppies and kittens are not allowed to travel until they are 3 months and 3 weeks old. This in connection with the validity of their rabies vaccination.

The journey to the Netherlands will take place by road or by plane. We will send all information well before this date. We don't want to risk an animal escaping and that's why it is obliged to have double leash for the dog. That means: a tight collar and a well-fitting safety harness with a leash on both. Cats are transferred in the car/car with closed doors to their own transport box.

Step 5: Home!

In the days after arrival, we will contact you to ask how the new family member is doing. Of course we can also be reached via email or WhatsApp if there are any questions.
